My Story: The Girl Rising 2020 Storytelling Challenge (the “Contest”)

OFFICIAL CONTEST RULES 

NO PURCHASE OR PAYMENT OF ANY KIND IS NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN THIS CONTEST. A PURCHASE WILL NOT INCREASE YOUR CHANCES TO WIN. THIS CONTEST IS VOID WHERE PROHIBITED BY LAW.

By entering this Contest, entrants accept and agree to be bound by these Official Contest Rules. Any violation of these rules may, at Sponsor’s discretion, result in disqualification. All decisions of the judges regarding this Contest are final and binding in all respects. 

Submissions are subject to the Girl Rising Terms and Conditions located at girlrising.org/terms-and-conditions, including all other policies incorporated therin. Information submitted in connection with the application is subject to the Girl Rising Privacy Policy located at girlrising.org/privacy-policy.


CONTEST ENTRY PERIOD.

The Contest begins June 24th, 2020 and ends September 8th, 2020 12:00 AM EST, when all entries must be received (“Contest Period”).

ELIGIBILITY.

This Contest is only open to participants with a valid email address who are 14 years and older. For those who are not at least 18 years old as of the date of entry, a parent or legal guardian must provide an electronic signature and electronic contact information on the submission form. Employees and affiliates of Girl Rising and HP, or any other party associated with the development or administration of this Contest, and the immediate family, and persons residing in the same household, as such individuals are not eligible to participate in the Contest. This Challenge is not open to residents and/or citizens of Canada. This Contest is void where prohibited.


HOW TO ENTER.

Participants may enter the Contest during the Contest Period by accessing https://mystory.girlrising.org/ and filling out and submitting an entry form. Participants will be required to submit their contact information and answer a short series of questions, including uploading an original creative work, including either a video (2 minutes or less), audio/music piece (2 minutes or less), artwork/photograph (up to 3 images) or writing (essay, poem, song, etc.) (500 words maximum). All Submissions must comply with the SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS specified below.  Entrants represent and warrant that their Submission is the original work of such entrant, it has not been copied from others, and it does not violate the rights of any other person or entity. Limit: There is no limit to the number of entries per person or per e-mail address during the Contest Period. All entrant information, including email addresses, is subject to the respective Privacy Policy of the applicable Sponsor. Any submission that does not comply with the rules will be disqualified (so if they use someone else’s artwork, they are disqualified)


WINNER SELECTION AND NOTIFICATION.

All entries will be judged throughout the Contest Period by a panel of judges comprised of Girl Rising and HP staff. Up to 30 Finalists will advance to a second round of judging and be judged on or around September 15, 2020 by a panel of representatives selected by Girl Rising and HP. The judges will score entries on a scale of 0-10 points based on the following criteria: creativity and originality of submission (3 points) and potential for impact of an individual’s action taken in support of gender equality (7 points). The entrants with highest overall scores will be declared potential winners. Any potential winner (finalist) will be notified by e-mail. If a potential winner: (i) cannot be contacted; (ii) does not respond within five (5) days from the date the Sponsor first tries to notify him/her; (iii) fails to return the Affidavit and Release as specified below; (iv) refuses the prize; and/or (v) the prize or prize notification is returned as undeliverable, such potential winner forfeits all rights to win the Contest or receive the prize, and an alternate potential winner may be selected. Upon contacting a potential winner and determining that he/she has met all eligibility requirements of the Contest, including without limitation the execution of required waivers, publicity and liability releases and disclaimers, and, at Sponsor’s discretion, successful completion of a background check, such individual will be declared a “winner” of the Contest. . By entering the Contest, each entrant agrees that the judges’ decisions regarding the Prizewinners and the Runner Up Prize Winners, and in regard to all related matters(including, without limitation, eligibility), shall be final and binding in all respects.


PRIZE DESCRIPTION.

Fifteen (15)winners will each (1) receive a prize of $500 cash (each, a “Prize”), to beeither awarded to the winner or, at the winner’s election, donated by theSponsor to a non-profit organization of the winner’s choice in lieu of personally receiving the $1,000 cash prize, and (2) have their Submissions published on girlrising.org.  No interest will be paid on any cash prizes.  All income taxes (including, without limitation, federal, state, local and/or use taxes)on or connected with any prize, and the reporting consequences thereof, are solely the responsibility of respective winners.  If required by law, Sponsor reserves the right to withhold and remit to the appropriate taxing authorities the amount of any taxes due.  Expenses not stated for any prize are the sole responsibility of the winner.  Other restrictions may apply. Each entrant maybe required, prior to being receiving any Prize, to first provide Sponsor with all of such US entrant’s applicable taxpayer identification information and other required and reasonably requested tax and tax-related documentation.  Sponsor or its respective agents may advise the United States Internal Revenue Service and other applicable non-U.S. tax regulators of the value of the Prize awarded to such entrant.

ODDS OF WINNING. 

The odds of winning will depend on the number of eligible entries received.  Winners will be selected based on skills, not at random.


SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS. 

Submissions, or any portions thereof (including any text, music, artwork, set designs, graphics or similar) must be original work of the entrant and previously unpublished.  Videos and audio files must not be longer than 120 seconds in length.  Video files must be in MOV, MPEG, MPG, MP4, M4V, VOB, FLV, AVI, ASF, DIVX, WMV format, and Submissions must be no larger than 10 MB.  For best results, videos should be in 16 x 9 aspect ratio. The entrant must be the sole owner of all right, title and interest in and to the Submission, or otherwise possess all rights in and permissions to the Submission required to grant the rights contemplated in these Official Contest Rules the Sponsor.  If any person whose name, voice, likeness or persona is referenced, shown or otherwise captured in a Submission, entrant must secure the written consent of such person(s), and, if such person(s) are under the age of majority, also such person(s) parent/guardian.  Submissions will not be accepted or eligible in the Contest if they include any content that contains or appears to contain, in each case as determined by the Sponsor in its sole discretion, any of the following: (a) offensive, profane, obscene or inappropriate material; (b) endorsement of (or condones) illegal drug use, alcohol abuse, or other illegal activity; (c) nudity, profanity, or extreme or gratuitous violence; (d) any express or implied commercial endorsement; (e) any derogatory characterization of any person or group based on age, race, color, gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, marital status, mental or physical disability, citizenship, creed, national origin, physical appearance, political affiliation, union membership, or other unethical or unlawful factors; (f) depictions of any conduct, language or other context not in keeping with Sponsor’s image; or (g) material that defames or invade publicity rights or privacy of any person living or deceased, or otherwise infringe upon any person’s personal or property rights or any other third party rights, including, without limitation, trademark, copyright or other intellectual property rights.  Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify any Submission it deems to fail to meet the requirements of these Official Contest Rules.  A Submission will not be accepted if it includes any trademarks, trade dress, logos, copyrighted material or any other intellectual property of any individual, company, or other entity or which may imply a false association or sponsorship or violate the intellectual property rights of others.  Entrants are solely responsible for any copyright infringement or other violation of law arising from the Sponsor’s use of the Submission.  Entrants acknowledge that any breach or violation of these Official Contest Rules, or a third party asserting rights to any Submission, will immediately disqualify the entrant during any phase of the Contest.  ENTRANTS SHOULD NOT INCLUDE THEIR NAME, CONTACT INFORMATION OR ANY OTHER PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION IN SUBMISSIONS, OR ANY PART THEREOF, AS THE SUBMISSIONS MAY BE PUBLICLY ACCESSIBLE.  SPONSOR RESERVES THE RIGHT TO MODIFY THE SUBMISSION TO REMOVE SUCH INFORMATION AND/OR DEEM THE SUBMISSIONS VOID AND ILLEGIBLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE CONTEST.


OWNERSHIP AND LICENSE.

All entry materials become the property of the Sponsor and will not be acknowledged or returned. The copyright in any Submission shall remain the property of the entrant, but entry into this Contest constitutes entrant’s irrevocable and perpetual permission and consent, without further compensation, to use, reproduce, print, publish, transmit, distribute, perform, adapt, enhance, or display such Submission, and the entrant’s name and/or likeness, for any purpose, including but not limited to editorial and publicity purposes by the Sponsor and/or others authorized by the Sponsor, in any and all media now in existence or hereinafter created, throughout the world, for the duration or the copyright in the Submission. Sponsor and/or others authorized by the Sponsor shall have the right to edit, adapt, and modify the Submission.


USE RIGHTS.

Each entrant irrevocably grants Sponsor and its affiliates, legal representatives, assigns, agents and licensees, the unconditional and perpetual right and permission to reproduce, encode, store, copy, transmit, publish, post, broadcast, display, publicly perform, adapt, exhibit and/or otherwise use or reuse (without limitation as to when or to the number of times used), each element of the entrant’s Submission, or any portion thereof, including, but not limited to, the recording and the performances contained therein (in each case, as submitted or as edited/modified in any way by the Sponsor, in its sole discretion), as well as to use entrant’s name, likeness, photograph (collectively, "Likeness"), and/or statements regarding his/her participation in this Contest (with or without using the entrant’s name) via all forms of media now known or hereafter devised worldwide, in perpetuity, without notice, and without additional compensation or approval from the entrant or any other party, except where otherwise prohibited by law.  Entrant waives any retained rights of attribution, privacy, publicity, withdrawal, integrity or other moral or personal rights in the Submission, entry forms and other related materials that might preclude the Sponsor's use of any element of the Submission, and agrees not to sue or assert any claim against the Sponsor for the use of any element of the Submission or entrant’s Likeness or statements.  If Sponsor requests the entrant’s cooperation in promoting the Contest, the entrant agrees to reasonably be available for such promotional activities.


NO PRIZE TRANSFER OR SUBSTITUTION.

No prize or any portion thereof is transferable or redeemable for cash. No substitutions for prize except by Sponsor, in which case a prize of equal or greater value will be substituted.


CONSENT AND RELEASE.

By entering the Contest, each entrant releases and discharges the Sponsor, HP Inc., judges, and any other party associated with the development or administration of this Contest, their parent, subsidiary, and affiliated entities, and each of their respective officers, directors, members, shareholders, employees, independent contractors, agents, representatives, successors and assigns (collectively, “Sponsor Entities”), from any and all liability whatsoever in connection with this Contest, including without limitation legal claims, costs, injuries, losses or damages, demands or actions of any kind (including without limitation personal injuries, death, damage to, loss or destruction or property, rights of publicity or privacy, defamation, or portrayal in a false light) (collectively, “Claims”). Except where prohibited: (i) entry into the Contest constitutes the consent of each entrant, without further compensation, to use his/her name, likeness, biographical data, and his/her Submission for marketing, publicity, and administrative purposes by the Sponsor and/or others authorized by the Sponsor; (ii) acceptance of a prize constitutes a release by any winner of the Sponsor Entities of any and all Claims in connection with the administration of this Contest and the use, misuse, or possession of his/her Submission or any prize; (iii) any potential winner may be required to sign an affidavit of eligibility (including social security number) and a liability/publicity/copyright release; and (iv) if prize involves travel or activities, any potential winner and travel companion (if applicable) may be required to execute releases of the Sponsor from any and all liability with respect to participation in such travel/activities and/or use of the prize. Fully-executed affidavits and releases must be received by Sponsor within five (5) days from the date that Sponsor first tries to notify the potential winner. Sponsor may conduct a background check to confirm any potential winner’s eligibility and compliance with these rules. Names/identities of third parties cannot be used without their permission. If submission features another individual, entrant is required to obtain a written release from the subject of their work if they are named a Finalist.  By entering, you agree to cooperate reasonably with any such background check. If the prize includes participation in any public event(s) or publicity, or if Sponsor Entities intend to publicize the winner in any way, and if a background check reveals that a potential winner has engaged in conduct that could damage the reputation or business of any Sponsor Entity, as determined by Sponsor in its discretion, the potential winner may be disqualified and the prize may be awarded to an alternate winner. If winner is deemed to be a minor under the jurisdiction of his/her residence, the prize will be awarded in the name of his/her parent or legal guardian who must execute the necessary affidavit and release and, if applicable, must accompany winner on the trip (no additional travel expenses will be awarded should a parent or legal guardian be required to accompany the winner on the trip).


DISCLAIMERS.

(i) Sponsor not responsible for entries that are lost, late, misdirected, incorrect, garbled, or incompletely received, for any reason, including by reason of hardware, software, browser, or network failure, malfunction, congestion, or incompatibility at Sponsor’s servers or elsewhere. In the event of a dispute, entries will be deemed submitted by the authorized account holder of the e-mail address submitted at the time of entry. “Authorized account holder” is defined as the natural person who is assigned to an e-mail address by an Internet Access Provider, online service provider, or other organization (e.g., business, educational institute) that is responsible for assigning e-mail addresses for the domain associated with the submitted e-mail address. (ii) Sponsor, in its sole discretion, reserves the right to disqualify any person tampering with the entry process or the operation of the web site or otherwise attempting to undermine the legitimate operation of the Contest. Use of bots or other automated process to enter is prohibited and may result in disqualification at the sole discretion of Sponsor. (iii) Sponsor further reserves the right to cancel, terminate or modify the Contest if it is not capable of completion as planned, including by reason of infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, force majeure or technical failures of any sort. (iv) Sponsor Entities are not responsible for errors in the administration or fulfillment of this Contest, including without limitation mechanical, human, printing, distribution or production errors, and may cancel, terminate or modify this Contest based upon such error at its sole discretion without liability. In no event will Sponsor be responsible for awarding more than the number of prizes specified in these rules. (v) In the event this Contest is cancelled or terminated, pursuant to subparagraph (iii) or (iv), Sponsor, in its sole discretion, may elect to select a winner from among all eligible entries received up to the date of discontinuance for any or all of the prizes offered herein. (vi) SPONSOR ENTITIES MAKE NO WARRANTIES, REPRESENTATIONS OR GUARANTEES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, IN FACT OR IN LAW, AS REGARDS THIS CONTEST OR THE MERCHANTABILITY, QUALITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE REGARDING ANY PRIZE OR ANY COMPONENT OF ANY PRIZE. (vii) CAUTION: ANY ATTEMPT BY AN ENTRANT TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE THE WEBSITE OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THIS CONTEST MAY BE A VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND/OR CIVIL LAWS, AND SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, SPONSOR RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK REMEDIES AND DAMAGES (INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION ATTORNEYS’ FEES) FROM ANY SUCH ENTRANT TO THE FULLEST EXTENT OF THE LAW, INCLUDING CRIMINAL PROSECUTION. (viii) The value(s) of the prize(s) set forth above represent Sponsor’s good faith determination of the approximate retail value(s) thereof; the actual fair market value(s) as ultimately determined by Sponsor are final and binding and cannot be challenged or appealed. In the event the stated approximate retail value(s) of a prize is more than the actual fair market value of that prize, the difference will not be awarded in cash or otherwise. No substitution or compensation will be given for any portion of the prize that is not used.   This Contest is not sponsored, endorsed or administered by Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or any other social media websites or applications, and such social media websites and applications (i) are not associated with this Contest in any way and (ii) have not sponsored, endorsed, approved, and do not have any responsibility for this Contest. Any questions, comments or complaints regarding the Contest must be directed to the Sponsor, and not to Facebook. By enter into this Contest you are providing your Submissions and information to Sponsor and not to Facebook.


APPLICABLE LAWS AND JURISDICTION.

This Contest is subject to all applicable government, federal, state, and local laws and regulations. If any court of law, having the jurisdiction to decide on this matter, rules that any provision of these Official Rules is invalid or unenforceable, then that provision will be removed from the Official Rules without affecting the rest of the Terms. The remaining provisions of these Official Rules will continue to be valid and enforceable. Issues concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of these Official Rules shall be governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to any principles of conflict of laws. All disputes arising out of or connected with this Contest will be resolved individually, and without resort to class action, exclusively by a state or federal court located in New York, New York. Should there be a conflict between the laws of the State of New York and any other laws, the conflict will be resolved in favor of the laws of the State of New York. To the extent permitted by applicable law, all judgments or awards shall be limited to actual out-of-pocket damages (excluding attorneys’ fees) associated with participation in this Contest and shall not include any indirect, punitive, incidental and/or consequential damages.
